4 Healthy Summer Smoothies

I’ve been trying to start each day with a smoothie or make one in the afternoon rather than reach for an unhealthy snack and I honestly feel so much better for it. It’s such an easy way to pack in at least 3 of your 5-a-day in one go and the flavour combinations below are all delicious (even the green one… don’t be put off!)

I had been sticking to raspberry and banana with a couple of spoons of Greek yogurt as I had SO much fruit left over from the fruit picking I told you about last week (which you can find here.) However my best friend and I wanted to get more creative with the flavours and it was so  much fun! (You can head over to her blog here for more recipes and all things fashion and beauty.) It was also pretty inexpensive (we shopped at Asda) and the fruit and veg we bought will last me a week or so which surprised me. So, here they are…

 Breakfast on the Go
1/2 mango
1/2 banana
handful blueberries
2 tablespoons low fat Greek yogurt
120ml apple juice
1 tablespoon granola (optional)
handful crushed ice

This is exactly what you need to wake you up in the morning. The mango and blueberries are quite tangy but the banana and yogurt keep it from being sour. It feels good to know you have started your day healthily and helps to set me on the right track to eat well for the rest of the day. We left out the granola but add it in if you don’t mind a few bits –simply pop all the ingredients in the blender and blitz.

Super Green Summer
2 slices melon
1/2 mango
generous handful of spinach
1/4 cucumber
2 tablespoons Greek yogurt
120ml apple juice
handful crushed ice

Don’t be put off by the green colour or the spinach. The mango and melon disguise it really well and the cucumber makes this drink cool and refreshing. It was also really light so I’d go for this in the middle of the day when I need a little energy pick-me-up — blend the spinach until reduced and then add in all the other ingredients.

The Tropical Vegan
1 banana
1 orange, peeled
2 or 3 slices pineapple
120 ml unsweetened almond milk

Yummy yummy yummy and really simple, this one was probably my favourite. An ideal summery drink for any time of day – pile all the ingredients into a blender, top with almond milk and mix.

Kiwi Surprise
handful blueberries
handful raspberries
handful strawberries
2 kiwis, sliced and peeled
120 ml apple juice
handful crushed ice

This one is packed with so much fruit and perfect if you do have any summer fruits that need using up. Although you can’t see from the colour, the flavour of the kiwi really comes through and this is another one I will be having for breakfast to wake me up – you can chuck all the fruit in together and mix.

I hope you enjoy these,  I would love to hear any other yummy smoothie recipes. Don’t be put off recipes if they state frozen fruit and you have only just gone out and bought your’s – in my opinion they work the same. However bag up leftover fruit and pop them in the freezer for next time so they stay fresh. Happy smoothie making x
