5 Healthy & Refreshing Smoothies

Since my last smoothie recipe post, I have got a little obsessed with them. I have really got into the routine of having one every day for breakfast and the little heatwave we seem to be having has also had me craving something really refreshing and cold during the day

However one thing that bothers me about eating healthily is that it can start to get pretty expensive and I also had a lot of leftover fruit that needed using up since my last post. So, I tried to think up some recipes that would be a little less expensive as they mostly use up different variations of the same ingredients and any fruit you don’t use in one smoothie, can be cut up and popped in the freezer and used for another one…

Mango & Banana
1/2 mango
1/2 banana
120ml pineapple juice
1 tablespoon fat free Greek yogurt
handful crushed ice

Quite simply, this tastes exactly how you would expect. It has a thicker milkshake consistency but is still really refreshing, however if you don’t like that simply take out the yogurt and add pineapple juice until its at a consistency that you prefer

Mango, Banana and Raspberry
1/2 mango
1/2 banana
handful of raspberries
120ml unsweetened almond milk
handful crushed ice

This recipe allowed me to use up the leftover fruit from the previous recipe right away, as well as the rest of a carton of almond milk. I still also still have punnet of raspberries hanging around in the freezer and they worked really well – adding a sharpness and making the consistency a bit lighter.

Melon Cooler
2 slices honeydew melon
1 slice watermelon
1 slice pineapple
handful strawberries
120ml pineapple juice
handful crushed ice

I will admit with this one I cheated and brought one of those little packs from Tesco with ready sliced melon as it was reduced, and I thought it would go nicely with what I had left at home. As refreshing as the various iced drinks look in coffee shops I’m not convinced that they aren’t full of sugar from the flavoured syrups and in comparison to those, making this was pretty cheap. Melon can be quite a subtle flavour so I didn’t want to add too much to it, but the strawberries gave it a bit of extra sweetness.

Sweet Peach
1 peach
handful rasperries
120ml apple juice
drizzle of honey or agave nectar
handful crushed ice

Again, this one tastes exactly as you would expect and I added a little honey to reduce the sharpness

Pineapple, Banana and Coconut
1/2 banana
3 large slices pineapple
120ml ligt coconut milk
splash of pineapple juice
handful crushed ice

As much as I love a piña colada, I realistically can’t start my day with one and unfortunately I don’t spend my life on holiday, cocktail in hand. However this is a really nice sweet treat when sitting in your garden on a sunny day.
